Tips for Brides

Today I’m sharing my newest obsession with you all. I’ve always looooved calligraphy (I even took one of Laura Hooper’s classes in NYC once!) but sadly, I’m just not that great at it. I so love how elegant it is and how quickly calligraphy can make something look so classic and timeless. If I were better at it I think I would just add calligraphy to everything in my life! Sadly, though, that’s not the case, but luckily, I’ve recently started working with Caitlin Jane Calligraphy on a few projects and I am obsessed! So obsessed that I wanted to introduce her to all our brides! If you’re looking for a calligrapher for your wedding invites or other wedding stationery, she’s your girl! Read on and get to know the woman behind Caitlin Jane Calligraphy. (and be sure to check out her Instagram feed – it is all kinds of pretty!)

By the way, the nib in the feature image below is my beginner’s nib, not Caitlin’s. I’m sure her nibs are way fancier than mine, ha!

Tell us a little about you and your business.

I’m Caitlin and I’m from the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania – just outside of Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey.  I fell in love with calligraphy after my own wedding a few years ago when I was reintroduced to wedding invitations, stationery, and my creative side.  Most days you’ll find me checking things off my to-do list.  I have a weird obsession with lists, as in, sometimes I write things down just so I can cross them back off again.  I’m one of those people who always as too many tabs in my brain open so jotting things down makes me feel more organized!  I’m married to my best Friend, Ed, whom I met playing college basketball.  We wore the same jersey number and played the same position, so I guess you can say it was meant to be (kidding!) We love a good margarita, make each other laugh a lot, and settle all decisions over a game of rock-paper-scissors.  We also love to travel, but we equally love being homebodies on the couch.  I’m an ice cream connoisseur, a beach bum and salt water addict, and have always loved pretty letters and packaging.

I call my business accidental.  I grew up practicing my handwriting and drawing my name 100 different ways in my school notebooks.  Even through college, I was the student who re-wrote my notes if they weren’t neat enough.  Fast forward and after I graduated I began working in the corporate world like many of us do.  Although I liked my job it left me with a strange void that I needed to fill.  I remember scrolling across a calligraphy workshop while being down the rabbit hole of Instagram one day.  I loved the workshop so much and began practicing calligraphy in my spare time, posting about it occasionally on my personal Instagram and Facebook accounts.  A few months later a friend reached out and asked me to address wedding invitations.  I loved the process, the bride loved the process, and I guess you can say the rest is history.  One small job let to another and then another and I honestly could not be happier that this is what I am doing!

What do you love most about what you do?

I absolutely love having the opportunity to play a small role in someone’s wedding or special event.  I am a detail-oriented person and sometimes I believe the smallest details can make a big difference. I love having the opportunity to meet new and help them incorporate details into their event to make it a little extra special.

What types of services do you offer?

I offer calligraphy services in the form of envelope addressing and reception pieces (place cards/escort cards, table numbers, gift tags, reception signage, etc.)  I also offer custom projects upon request (vows, quotes, etc.)  I currently do not offer invitation design, but I can provide spot calligraphy to be used in a custom invitation.

How early should our brides book you?

It’s never too soon to contact me!  My schedule tends to fill up quickly, so as soon as a bride knows she is interested in calligraphy I’d recommend reaching out to get the process started.

What should our brides know about your process and about working with you?

Although fun, planning a wedding can be stressful and overwhelming, especially as the wedding approaches when all of the details start coming together.  I love to take the stress off of brides and help them to truly enjoy planning the planning process.  I keep my process simple, enjoyable, and have open lines of communication so that brides can be certain they are getting exactly what they’re looking for in terms of their calligraphy and reception pieces.
