As a wedding photographer, I get to hear lots of stories about how couples meet. I often get similar responses, but Catherine and Hrvoje’s love story began in a rather unique way – at the gym! They ended up connecting pretty quickly outside the gym and went on their first date soon after, developing what would become a deep, meaningful relationship. In August 2017, they were engaged after a romantic proposal on the rooftop of One World Trade. Once they began planning their big day, the two envisioned a fall wedding during their favorite time of year.
Catherine and Hrvoje’s wedding day finally arrived last weekend. We had beautiful autumn weather and the leaves had finally started to turn. After getting ready with their closest family and friends, we headed to Manhattan for these two to wed at the Croatian church. This was by far one of the most beautiful churches I’ve had the privilege of shooting at – wait until you see it!
After their traditional church ceremony, we headed to Kingsland Park in Nutley for the portrait session and I was surprised to see a waterfall there! Who knew there was a beautiful waterfall right in Northern NJ! I loved seeing the fall color palette against their wedding colors of wine and navy paired with soft pink. It made for the prettiest combination for an autumn wedding.
Catherine and Hrvoje chose to celebrate their marriage at Westmount Country Club. When I asked Catherine and Hrvoje why they picked their venue, they told me after attending Hrvoje’s sister’s wedding there a few years ago, they knew it would be the venue for them, too. I think they made a great choice! This wedding day fit the two of them perfectly and was a joy to capture. Of course, I knew it would be amazing after I shot Catherine’s brother’s wedding last year. I also knew the dance floor would be incredibly lively with 292 guests. It certainly did not disappoint! Between their joyful guests – some coming all the way from Croatia – and an amazing band that did a great job of incorporating some Croatian music for Hrvoje’s side of the family, the dance floor was so fun! It was so hard to pick just a few favorite images for this blog preview!
