Tips for Perfect Bridal Hair

Last summer, we had the pleasure of working with the ladies from Bella Angel Hair & Makeup at Karen and Chris’s Inn at Lambertville Station Wedding. They did a fabulous job of getting Karen and her bridesmaids ready for the big day and everyone looked beautiful! Karen looked absolutely stunning and was a perfect bride! Since wedding season is right around the corner I thought it would be a perfect time to share some helpful advice from Bella Angel regarding bridal hair and trials or preview sessions. I hope this post is helpful to all of our brides! I can’t wait to see how you’ve chosen to style your hair on your wedding day!

Bella Angel Wedding Hair Tips

1. At your preview or consultation, and every bride should have one, your stylist should first discuss with you what you want. It is YOUR Wedding Day so don’t be shy when discussing styles of hair. You should bring pictures of hairstyles you like so your artist has an idea of the look you are going for and your stylist/artist should be able to offer ideas and alternatives to suite your look.

2. Try to schedule your preview on a night when you are going out or on a day where you may be having a dress fitting, a special event, or going to dinner with a friend or your fiancé. Wear a white t-shirt, tube top or halter top to get a good idea as to how your hair will look with the style of your dress.

3. BE HONEST! about the results. Let your stylist know what you like and what you dislike. The stylist should make the changes you want and you should leave 100% happy. You want to look and feel like yourself– only better.

4. If you plan on getting your hair colored or cut prior to your wedding day be sure and have that done prior to when you come in for your preview session so that when you have your preview, your hair will be the same color and length on the wedding day rather than after your trial and surprising your hairstylist with a shorter style that may or may not do what you want. If you are going to get a trim, make sure it is just that and get your trim 3-4 weeks before your wedding, in case it is shorter then you anticipated.  DO NOT try a new style or a new hairstylist before your wedding day.

5. Let the stylist know if your hairstyle hurts your head. Your hairstyle should not give you a headache by the end of the day, the stylist should know how to distribute the hair on your head so it is comfortable all day and night.

6.  You may have heard that dirty hair is better for up styles, and we strongly disagree. A Bride wants to feel clean on her wedding day. If you want to wash your hair, you go right ahead. Your stylist will apply product of your hair to make it cooperate. If you have oily hair it is best to wash it so the hair will cooperate better and not be weighed down. It is also best to have clean hair at your preview session.

7. When you come in for your preview session you should have clean dry hair and not slicked back in a ponytail, especially if you want your wedding hairstyle to be soft in the front. It will be difficult to achieve that look if your hair is slicked back.

8. If you have naturally curly hair but want curling iron soft curls on your wedding day be sure and get your hair as straight as you can prior to the stylist touching your hair and do not use a flat iron or straightening gels or lotions on your hair. It will be difficult to hold a curling iron curl after a flat iron or straightening products have been used in your hair.

9. Be prepared when you come in for your preview session and bring any hair accessories you plan on wearing in your hair along with your veil if you will be wearing one. If you are planning on wearing hair extensions please have them with you. Hair extensions should be 100% human hair and have clips attached. We have found they are easy to attach and easy for you to remove at the end of the night.

10. Bring a friend or relative with you to your preview session. We think it’s a great idea to take along someone that knows you well so they can give their opinion and help you make a decision, especially if you are afraid to speak up and voice your opinion.

With a little planning, your most memorable day will be your most beautiful.
