10 Things You Didn't Know About Me

I’ve been blogging for over six years now and in that time I’ve shared a lot of our work, wedding advice, and insight into our business. I love that this blog tells the stories of our clients and our journey as photographers but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’d like it to tell our story, too. The story of who we are as people. Humans thrive on personal connections, and I’d love to know we’re doing our best to help our past, present, and future readers feel connected to us when they come to our blog. After all, we love being in a line of work that allows us to meet so many people and affords us the opportunity to meet them during the best time of their lives. We absolutely love getting to know our couples, sharing in their special moments on their wedding day (and often times once they become parents, too!), and following their stories through social media, so something tells me people might feel the same way about us, too. Personally, I love reading personal posts on other people’s blogs and gaining insight into their lives and businesses. The personal stories are what keep me engaged in their latest IG posts and subscribed to their newsletters and blogs. So today I’m committing to using this blog as a platform to share more about who we are and I hope you enjoy it! Actually, if you follow me on Instagram and you enjoyed the 5 fun facts I posted about myself yesterday as part of the #InstaTideChallenge, you’ll definitely enjoy this new approach to what we share on the blog. If you missed the fun facts, click here to read them. All done? Perfect! Let’s get started with today’s post! Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about me:

  1. For the first 8 months of  2016 I was getting what I called burning eye syndrome every evening and thought I was allergic to my mascara. Until I went to the eye doctor this summer and discovered I needed glasses. This post contains the very first public photo of me with my new glasses. They’re growing on me!
  2. When I was little, I got my head stuck in a railing at Woodbridge Mall while eating a corn dog. My mother had to get mall security to help, and they got the firefighters involved. Thankfully, it happened well before viral videos were a thing.
  3. After my sophomore year of high school, I spent a year studying abroad in France and didn’t get any high school credit for it. It may have taken me five years to graduate from high school but I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.
  4. I don’t love to cook, but I don’t mind following an easy recipe. Plated is my secret weapon.
  5. In college I started out as a business major before I switched over to majoring in French and minoring in Spanish. And now I’m a small business owner. That is how life comes full circle, my friends.
  6. Everyone knows I love to travel, but what most people don’t know is that some of my favorite trips were when I chaperoned student trips to Spain, Costa Rica, and Italy. Witnessing my former students discovering a new country for the first time goes down as one of the best experiences of my 14 year teaching career.
  7. I have a girl crush on Audrey Tautou. I watch any film she stars in before even reading the synopsis.
  8. #nerdalert! I love museums. Once, I flew with a friend to London for the weekend just to see the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Tate Modern. Another time, I spent a month in Paris and while I was there, spent six consecutive days taking full advantage of the Paris Museum Pass. And was disappointed when I couldn’t get to all 60 museums that were included in the pass.
  9. I thought I wanted to be a translator when I grew up so I got my M.A. in Spanish with a focus in translation. My magnum opus is the Spanish translation of the student-parent handbook at the high school where I used to teach.
  10. My guilty pleasures are sushi, brownie batter milkshakes, macarons, and crème brûlée. If they’re on the menu, I’m getting them!

Voilà! I hope you enjoyed these! Next week I’ll share a few things you didn’t know about Jay! In the meantime, I’d love to learn a few random things about our readers, too. Please share something about yourself in the comments below!
